Research in Sociology

Research at the division for sociology covers many problem areas with an emphasis on work, working life, health and welfare.

A major part of research and graduate education concerning work and working life takes place in cooperation with the division for learning in working life and educational settings (PiAU) within the frame of the research environment “work and working life” funded by the faculty of arts and sciences. Emphasis lies on health care.

At the moment there is also cooperation with HELIX VINN Excellence Centre, connected to PiAU. The division is active in a number of projects, externally funded by e.g. the KK-foundation, Social Fund in EU, the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth and VINNOVA (The Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems). Several of the externally funded PhD students have an interactive research design aimed at work and working life.

The division also cooperates with several research groups at the department of medical and health sciences, division for health and society, and the Tema institute, Tema H, in projects concerning goals and priorities in municipal care, projects about models of mental disturbance among employees in psychiatric care and projects in municipal public health work.

There is also a connection to the School of Health Science, division of rehabilitation, at Jönköping university, concerning studies of theory and ideology within the occupational therapist profession. Several major projects aimed at studies of various aspects of working with people with psychological problems are being developed.

Within the frame of an agreement between the Swedish Municipal Workers’ Union and Linköping University a project on general methods for validation is being developed.
