Peripheral auditory systems, 3 ECTS
Dates: 11-13 and 26-27 January, 2011
Place: Technical Audiology, US Linköping
Course leader: Stefan Stenfelt
Course literature: List of papers and book chapters will be distributed to the participants mid December.
Summary: The course is aimed to understand the mechano-physiological processes in the peripheral auditory system and the perceptual manifestations (psycho-acoustic). The student is requested to be active during the lectures, to prepare and give a lecture in one of the topics during the course (topics will be assigned to student prior to the course), to design and pilot a measurement/test targeting a specific peripheral physiologic process and its perceptual manifestation, and to report the results of the latter to the course peers.
For more information please contact Stefan Stenfelt
Register to Stefan Stenfelt at the latest 13th December 2010.

Special research project within the field of hearing and deafness, 7.5 ECTS
This course will allow the student to gain direct experience of performing research in a context related to but different from the research environment in which the student is registered. The student will spend at least three weeks in a research environment other than the one in which he or she is registered. During that period, the student will take active part in a research study conducted in that research environment under the supervision of a senior researcher. The research environment will be selected in consultation between the student and his or her supervisors who will also address practical aspects concerning preparation for the research experience, travel, board and lodging as well as the formal requirements of the host organization.

Introduction to functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) as a tool to investigate the cognitive neuroscience of hearing. 7.5 ECTS credit points
Course start: 16 March 2010
Course manager: Ingrid Johnsrude, Professor in Cognitive Hearing Science, Linköping University and Queens University, Kingston, Ontario
This course will introduce functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) as a tool to investigate the neural correlates of cognitive and auditory function. After the course is completed the student will:
- be familiar with current ‘best practice’ in the use of fMRI
- know how to design and implement an fMRI study
- understand how fMRI can be applied to investigation of cognitive and auditory function
This course are open to all doctoral students and masters students space permitting.
